Building Your Real Estate Business One Skill at a Time — RISMedia

By on July 5, 2022 0

Whether it’s social media marketing, technology, or another aspect of your business that you’re struggling with, it’s important to remember that everyone can learn. Whether you’re 19 and just starting out in real estate, or 76 and still doing what you love, it’s never too early (or too late!) to develop new skills, new habits and experience new successes.

Focus on one thing

Social media platforms, technology, and other tools can leave you overwhelmed, especially if you’re trying to learn them all at once. If you’re like all of us, you probably develop sweats and feel like you’re being pulled in several different directions. When you start feeling this, it’s time to pick one thing and focus on learning it until you’re comfortable and confident.

If, for example, you’re currently having trouble with social media, pick one platform, like Facebook, and don’t look at any others until you’ve learned how to use it. Once you’re totally comfortable and confident enough to say, “I could teach a class on that,” move on. Next, you might want to focus on improving virtual home tour creation or email marketing.

Step by step

One of my favorite sayings is: “Little by little, life becomes child’s play. Meter by meter, life is hard. When we try to learn too much at once, it can be difficult, frustrating, and even counterproductive because we don’t retain what we learn.

When I decided to run a marathon (and believe me, I’m not a runner), I looked at the whole 26.2 miles and thought, “There’s no way. It’s too far!” But I was determined to do it, so I started training. I started small, because if I had tried to manage everything from the start, I would probably be dead in someone’s backyard. When I only ran 0.3 miles on my very first run, I considered quitting but ran a little farther each day. I have finally worked up a mile in two weeks, and it took me about five months to work me up to 26.2 miles.
